This post is all about wellness day.

We’re here to give you the ideas to plan and spend your wellness day caring for yourself. Every year, we look forward to the second Saturday of June to return to ourselves in a way that prioritizes our well-being. Across the globe, wellness day is seen as “the one day that can change your whole life.” GWD - Global Wellness Day was created to truly see and appreciate the value of life, to reflect on the first half of the year, prepare for the second half of the year, rid yourselves of bad habits, create new ones, strive for a peaceful day and life, and to create awareness for a more wholesome way of living life for the entirety of the year. So, now that we understand more about Global Wellness Day, how can we truly immerse ourselves in the GWD culture? Here are some steps and ideas to plan for a day of wellness that suits you.

Step #1: Find Your Intention for GWD

First and foremost, wellness can mean many different things to us. For some, it can mean stepping away from a consistent work life for one day to see the ocean; for others, it can mean letting go of a rigorous diet and enjoying a meal, or maybe it can mean trying a new way to move your body from what you’re typically used to. Wellbeing is not just related to exercise. It can also mean taking care of what directly affects you, but we also want to ensure we hit all the bases of wellness! To find where to focus for Global Wellness Day, choose from the following topics and see which calls for attention.

  • Exercise

  • Fresh Air

  • Human Interaction

  • Soul Food

  • Healthy Food

  • Relaxation

  • Meditation

  • Change of Scenery

  • Journaling

  • Alone Time

  • Spa Treatment

We put a lot of different topics because, as we said, wellness doesn’t just have one meaning. Wellness is subjective to people’s lives; what one person may need, the other may not. But here’s the truth. We want to help you recognize what area of your life we can support you in—realizing the potential to incorporate so that wellness isn’t just a day of the year but a lifestyle.

Step #2: Plan Ahead to Make the Day Impactful

Let the day be a gift to your life. So here's the most valuable asset to this whole blog post. Make it a point to show up for yourself, and make it the most impactful day of your year. That's right, you read and write. If you're beginning to understand GWD, it's not about the day; it's about creating the life! But it can very well start with the day. So, here's the tea. We all have busy lives. We all have responsibilities. If you selected a topic previously that you know deep down needs attention, treat June 8th like a doctor's appointment. Necessary and needed.

Step #3: Find your Way to Wellness Day

Since 2012, Wellness Day has grown in popularity so much that businesses treat customers with unique and accessible opportunities to enjoy the day collectively. If this day means alone time and doing nothing, that is great, too, for those looking to treat themselves to an activity or meet with like-minded people. Eventbrite is packed with local community gatherings, including group mediation, yoga, and walks. If you want something more personalized, your spa may run a special for June for Wellness Month. To take it one step further, memberships usually become more accessible in pricing during Wellness Month, so take advantage of the 30 days to form an excellent new habit.

Step #4: Truly Immersing Yourself in the Day

The most valuable and essential step is truly immersing yourself in your day. Awareness is a significant element of wellness. If we aren’t aware of what our mind, body, and soul need, we lose priority on our well-being. So you have one essential job on June 8th, and it’s to commit to yourself. Take mental and present images of your day to truly enjoy the care of being with yourself. Sometimes, journaling prompts can give you oversight on the positive effects of your efforts. We suggest the following journal prompts:

Before

What type of commitment have I chosen for Global Wellness Day? Why do you feel you chose that?

After

What emotions were running through me as I cared for myself today? Do I deserve that more than once a year? What other areas of my life would I have chosen to take care of? What small ways can I incorporate these needs in my life without needing to escape to receive them?

Step #5: Reflection and Incorporation

The true purpose of GWD is to enlighten those participating on the benefits of wellness year-round and just how important it can be to add something as simple as a walk, fresh air, or alone time to our busy lives. Many see the potential in GWD as a way to participate in a more significant cause, but remember that the reason is you. Demonstrate what it means to live a life entirely of wellness.
